DARTMOOR
Dartmoor
covers
an area of 365 square miles, and was established as a National Park in
1951. It is an area of wild, outstanding beauty - most of it over 1000
feet above sea level, and the highest points - Yes Tor and High Willhays
over 2000 feet.
The weather can be
extremely variable - like all hilly areas - and for anyone venturing on
to the high moorland, it is advisable to consider this.
Despite
the climate, there is much evidence of human endeavor - including bronze
age stone rows, circles & burial mounds, mining remains from the
last century, memorials, etc; - and, of course, from the land of the
'pixies' you would expect some folklore and 'legends' - and there are.
Plenty of them. !!
